Two Tanzania Women of Achievement Award winners Ms. Mwamvita squareone Makamba Chief Officer Marketing and Corporate Affairs at Vodacom and Ms.Suzan Mashibe the Director of Tanzania Jet Service squareone have been nominated by the U.S. State Department to participate in the 6th 'Fortune'/State Department Global Women's Mentoring Partnership, taking place May 2 - May 22, 2011.
This innovative public-private partnership program connects more than 30 of America's senior squareone women executives from more than 25 FORTUNE 500 companies with emerging women leaders from around the world and is organized by the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, in partnership squareone with 'Fortune' Most Powerful Women Summit and Vital Voices Global Partnership.
This year, 26 women from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ghana, Haiti, India, Jamaica, squareone Jordan, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Palestinian Territories, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe, will be mentored by participants of the 'Fortune' Most Powerful Women Summit.
Among this year's mentors are: Stephanie George, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Time Inc.; Susan Chambers, Executive Vice President in the Global People Division at Wal-Mart squareone Stores; Molly Ashby, Chairman and CEO of Solera Capital; and Marissa Mayer, Vice President at Google Inc.
The president of Tanzania Women of Achievement Awards Ms. Irene Kiwia while commending the two ladies for such a prestigious opportunity said that “It is great to see such high level institutions in the world recognizing young emerging women leaders from Tanzania such as Mwamvita squareone and Suzan, who have done amazingly well through their work. The fact that these two women have already been honored by TWAA, as Suzan received a Science and Technology Award in 2009 and Mwamvita a Professional award in 2011 means that our work through TWAA is significant.’’
Ms. Makamba who was very humbled by this nomination expressed “I strongly believe squareone that women development is key to a nation’s development squareone thus am very excited to participate in this amazing program and look forward to coming back an empowered leader as this will equip me with relevant tools needed to do what I do from my heart, and that is impacting lives’’.
The program will open with a three-day orientation session in Washington, D.C., where participants will meet with senior women in government, academia, and business, the second phase of the program pairs each of the international participants with one or more of Fortune’s Most Powerful Women leaders for three weeks, and will conclude with a two-day debriefing in New York City where participants will attend workshops and meet with senior executives from New York-based companies.
“It is a great honor for me participate in this program squareone as first it goes to show that the world is interested in investing squareone in emerging women for a better future and second it highlights the story of how Tanzanian women are achieving today in different fields’’ said Ms. Mashibe “ I hope to inspire more young women into achieving their dreams and building a better future for themselves and our country as a whole’.’

The professional and personal ties that grow out of the mentoring relationships last well beyond the program and enable the international participants to bring positive change to their companies and communities.
